The Jas Award 2025 and beyond

2025 marked a significant milestone as The Green Team assumed full operational responsibility for the JAS Award (Join in Award Scheme), previously administered by Awards Plus.

JAS Award (Join in Award Scheme) is an internationally recognised, accessible and highly flexible entry level award programme. Suitable for ALL ages, it is designed to encourage, capture and celebrate personal achievement – supporting learning through nature, discovery, adventure and being active.‍ ‍

JAS is particularly effective for pupils with support needs and provides an accessible first step towards awards such as the DofE Award.

During 2025:

  • 1,904 JAS Awards were distributed

  • A unified three-level Award (White, Green, Gold) replaced legacy systems

  • The online platform was fully redesigned and relaunched

  • Automated registration, payment and certification systems were introduced

  • International partnerships were strengthened and formalised

These developments improved efficiency, reduced administrative burden and enhanced user experience for schools and organisations.

JAS aligns naturally with The Green Team’s ethos: valuing experiential learning, personal development and young person-led achievement; particularly for those who may struggle within traditional academic settings.

Through programme pilots in 2025, including delivery within Skylarks and school partnerships, we saw how JAS enhances motivation, structures reflection and gives tangible recognition to learning that might otherwise go unseen. ‍

JAS helps our children reflect on things that are not core curricular areas like writing and reading. It helps them appreciate how many other things they are doing and the skills that these require. At the end of the Award they get a certificate which they all really enjoy too.

Taking on JAS has expanded The Green Team’s reach nationally and internationally, strengthening our role as a provider of accredited outdoor learning and reinforcing our mission to connect young people to nature, others and themselves.
