JAS in Thailand

Pupils in Thailand and Vietnam are enjoying the many benefits of the JAS Award, helping showcase why JAS is an internationally recognised, accessible and highly flexible entry level award programme.

In September, our friends and partners at Next Generation Schools in South East Asia shared recent examples of students in Thailand learning essential life schools with the JAS Award.

Founded in 2018, Meritton British International School is a small, family-based international school whose student population includes over 10 different nationalities.

Located on the doorstep of the old city of Chiang Mai and within minutes of the surrounding forests and mountains, the school aims to provide a programme of learning which puts values at the heart of education. Meritton’s Values-based Education program engages students, teachers and parents in regular learning activities, from values lessons and assemblies to daily mindfulness, life skills projects and parent workshops.

A great fit

Participation in the JAS Award aligns beautifully with Meritton’s values-based approach. Thanks to Next Generation Schools, we are delighted to share this recent project to help inspire other Award partners around the world.

Learning Life Skills ay Meritton

Meritton is proud to deliver the 𝐉𝐨𝐒𝐧 𝐈𝐧 π€π°πšπ«π π’πœπ‘πžπ¦πž Programme for students in Years 1–6.

Our students are currently learning about the importance of being active and healthy. To put their learning into practice, students planned and prepared meals from scratch, managed their own budgets, and visited Chiang Mai’s Mae Hia Market to select and buy the ingredients they needed before returning to school to cook together.

After learning about healthy living, they prepared and cooked their meals as a team, building confidence, responsibility, and teamwork.

These hands-on experiences help our students develop practical skills for life, including budgeting, making healthy choices, teamwork and independence, all while having plenty of fun along the way.

JAS in your area

It is always inspiring to hear about the different ways schools are integrating JAS into their learning and adapting the programme to suit their settings.

If you would like to share or discuss how the JAS Award can bring learning to life for young people in your area, we’d love to hear from you.

We’re here to help.

β€œJAS helps our children reflect on things that are not core curricular areas like writing and reading. It helps them appreciate how many other things they are doing and the skills that these require. At the end of the Award they get a certificate which they all really enjoy too.”
